Overview of the Coco Palms Resort
The Coco Palms Resort is one of Hawaii’s most iconic and beloved destinations, set on approximately 48 acres in Wailua on the eastern side of Kauai. Encompassing 500,000 square feet, the resort lies within the largest coconut grove in the Hawaiian Islands—land long regarded as sacred by Native Hawaiians and believed to have served as an ancient site of royal hospitality.
Coco Palms quickly captured international attention after opening in 1953 with just 24 rooms. Its stunning natural beauty and unique ambiance made it a sought-after location for numerous Hollywood productions, helping elevate the resort to global recognition. By the mid-1970s, it had expanded to over 400 luxury rooms and stood as a shining symbol of Hawaiian hospitality and style.
In 1992, Hurricane Iniki, a powerful Category 4 storm, compelled the resort to close its doors. Despite decades of dormancy, Coco Palms has stayed deeply ingrained in the hearts of generations who cherished its magic.
This treasured property is set for a thoughtful and historically sensitive restoration, honoring its cultural legacy while revitalizing it for a new generation. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Coco Palms occupies a vital place in Hawaii’s story—and its designation is crucial in ensuring that its restoration remains true to its original spirit, architecture, and purpose.
This redevelopment marks a pivotal moment: the first in Hawaii to restore such a renowned and beloved resort. More than simply rebuilding a hotel, Coco Palms’ vision strives to create a destination where guests can genuinely immerse themselves in a culturally rich Hawaiian experience—one that honors the land, the people, and the history that shaped it.
Investors, community leaders, and cultural stewards have all embraced our mission’s vision: the rebirth of a legend—not just as it once was, but as it was always meant to be.
